Tent City

A favorite childhood memory of mine, was building tents in the living room out of sheet. My sister and I would use broomsticks to prop up the middle, the couch, any type of heavy book to hold ends of the sheet (usually phone books) whatever we could gather. Today, while folding laundry, I decided to pass on the tradition with Sean... so we gathered our materials and put together our tent.


Sean really enjoyed the morning. Later in the afternoon he said, "let's build a tent again mommy!"

Swim test, passed with flying colors

Swim test consists of a series of skills dressed in full clothes, socks, shoes and a REGULAR diaper (mom's know how much those things absorb and how much they weight when they are completely full... wow). They do not practice in these clothes, only test. The purpose is to simulate if the child were to fall into a pool or body of water by accident. Sean did GREAT~!

ISR (Infant Swim Resource), is an amazing program! I highly recommend it to everyone I know with small children. Start them EARLY, as babies. This is Sean's 2nd season, and surprisingly he did not forget everything from last summer. They start teaching babies as young as 6 months. Sean started at 14 months.

First Performance

Tonight, Sean had his first performance. There was an audience of about 16 parents. I'm not sure that we'll be seeing "Broadway" in Sean's near future, but he did pick up interest by the time we got to the last few verses of the last song. I had to break the video recording into portions, so I'm not sure it's on this one or not. We really love his daycare family, all the kids and Miss Frances are wonderful.

It's been a while since I shared with you how much Sean has been changing lately. I've posted some pictures, but haven't added any narrative. I suppose I should talk about the most obvious... the TALKING. Oh my goodness, he is talking, and talking and talking. It's hilarious. We recently drove out to California, and Sean chatted it up in the back seat until about the last 5 miles, when I said to Sean, "Let's practice being quiet for just a little bit, honey...", to which Sean said, "Ok, Mommy".... and STOPPED TALKING! I couldn't believe my ears. It worked??? Are you kidding me? I looked at Steve and said, "did that just happen"? So then I felt so bad having shushed his creative, learning babble, that I started talking to him again.

It's so much fun. He's so curious and so smart. He is learning. He is hearing me tell him how to pronounce certain words, and he practices repeating them after me. It's amazing to me that his mind is working so hard to expand. I even thought to myself the other day... "I can't believe I'm able to teach him". Before I was a parent, I wondered how Parents knew how and what to teach children. I didn't know if I'd be good at it. But come to find out, it's just something that happens everyday, every step of the day and week. It's just a constant communication every moment. Some moments, hours, days, weeks are spent talking ONLY about TRUCKS.. and ALL THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF TRUCKS we see everyday on the road... TRASH TRUCKS, TRACTOR TRUCKS, BIG TRUCKS, more TRASH TRUCKS (he really likes the trash truck) I was really becoming concerned that he'd learn nothing more than truck talk. But he's coming around, and quickly.

The other day, we were shopping and their was a baby crying a couple aisle over. Sean looked at me and said "what's that mommy?", I said, "oh.. that babies not happy..." Sean looked at me and said, "I HAPPY, MOMMY!" I said, "You're happy Sean?" he said, "uh huh..." and grabbed me by the side of the face and hugged me.

So much in fact that he felt it must be guarded. This was about 3/4 the way through the class... Notice that there are no other kids around him, well that's because they were all participating in the class down where we were. Sean figured he'd hang out there for the rest of the day. Fortunately we were able to get him to engage in some other activities.

Hot Air Baloons.. Everywhere. 4 of them actually, 2 were flying about 50 feet off the ground. One landed across the street from our house. How exciting... All the kids in the neighborhood rushed out of their homes.

Imagine my surprise, when I walked by the patio window to see this...

Bring on Spring

The greatest thing about springtime is that everything around you feels new and refreshed. That goes for me personally as well. I know that spring is not officially here... but as soon as March roles around...I'm fully on board and ready to call it SPRING. We've had a lot of rain, so right now, all that I've got sprouting up is a bunch of weeds, but I can see the leaf blooms on my trees starting to open up to new leaves. I love it. I should really plant some tulips. Even if it's just in a pot. I love tulips and nothing says "springtime" more than tulips.

I took a few minutes this morning to look through some old pictures of Sean. (I say "old" but we're only talking 12mo., 18 mo., or 2yrs ago) It's amazing to see the change in him since even this time last year. He's such a different child. There's nearly no resemblance of that baby... he looks like such a little boy. I feel like he's so much older than he is. How did we get here so fast?

It really doesn't matter how we got here, or how fast time seems to be flying by, because it will always feel this way. My mother used to say it to me all the time..."seems like you were a little girl just yesterday.." Now I know how she felt.

A friend of mine said to me when Sean was first born, "every couple months you'll swear that THIS is your favorite age... until a month or so passes and then you say... no THIS is my favorite age...." It's so true. I love it all. I'm loving every step of the way. I loved playing in the sprinklers last summer, I love carving pumpkins in the fall, and I love looking forward to lots of play days in the spring at the park.
